Of course, there are many many other aspects to our process but here we summaries our approach. The following will give you a good idea about what is involved in the software development life cycle (SDLC) and the way we do things, here at Cubit, Nepal. The process begins with a consultation, followed by requirements gathering which then leads to design and development. Once these parts are complete we then carry out beta testing and release the product.

‍Initial Consultation

It always begins with you. Your idea is what starts out the entire process, as the initial domino, causing a chain reaction. You contact us with your great app idea and we organize a free 1-hour consultation to discuss your project. We understand that there are intellectual property rights involved, so we always sign NDA’s in order to protect your idea. Our senior consultants will then ask you a series of questions in order to clarify your concept. This first stage is there to validate your concept and determine whether it is feasible or not. We will always be upfront and honest to tell you about our thoughts about your project. After all your success is our success. Next comes the requirements.

Requirements

‍

Once the initial consultation is completed, we now have an understanding of your idea. The next stage is the requirements gathering stage. In this phase, both the consultant and business analyst, gather requirements from you. This can be in a variety of forms: interviews, emails and phone calls to name a few. The goal of this stage is to get a full grasp and a complete understanding of what it is that you would like to build. The aim is to make sure we know what the app is going to do, not what it could do.

We understand that resources are limited so we will always make sure we clarify the must features. This is also an exciting phase for us, as during this iteration we get to learn more about you and help you plan the perfect product. At the end of this process, we will have a comprehensive software requirements specification (SRS) document which outlines the functional, non-functional, security and use case requirements for your project. Let us now get ready to design your product.

Design and System Plan

The next step usually involves our graphic designers. Before the developers and app designers get on board, our graphics and UI/UX team do a mockup of your app, so we all have a clearer picture of what it looks like and how it functions. Sometimes this involves prototyping if the processes involved are not clear. Once the designers are happy, they will then present to you their masterpiece; the user interface and the user experience of your product.

As this is happening the technical lead together with other senior developers spend time designing the solution. Here our engineers figure out the details of the system they are building. This means figuring out the classes and objects to use, what the relations between them are, determining which technology to use, estimating time frames and other technical details such as the architectures to use (MVC, MVVM and so on).

Once the engineers are satisfied with their planning and we have your approval, we then engage the app designers to build the user interface. Our front-end developers will also be working on the web-frontend. This is finally where we start development, beginning with database design.

Data Modeling, Backend, and Development

If your application makes use of databases and web servers (which most modern apps do!), we involve our database experts to model your data requirements. This involves identifying the type of database (SQL, NoSQL etc.), the different tables, the relationships between the tables, the primary and foreign keys and all other details involved with data modeling. This process is important because storing the data efficiently and optimizing the queries, helps us create scalable and maintainable products. Along with this, our app developers will now begin coding the application. Our backend, app, and front-end developers will work together to develop the APIs and all other parts of your application.

Test Driven Development

Depending on the size of your project, development might range anywhere from a month to 12 months (or more). Therefore, we employ test-driven development methodologies to make sure the product is as stable as possible throughout the development phase. Every milestone is shown to you and we move forward seeking approval throughout the entire process. This also means you are able to make minor changes and adjustment as we go on. Other changes are possible, but this may change the budget and timeframes that were initially understood. We understand that it is not possible to cover every detail at the start so we account for these kinds of adjustments. Sometimes you get new ideas and sometimes we uncover difficulties that were not apparent at the start. These are all the benefits of using an agile method to develop.

During the entire development phase, a dedicated project manager will constantly be in touch with you reporting the status of the project. The project manager is also responsible for monitoring the completion of tasks, motivating the team and making sure the project runs smoothly with minimal problems and bugs.

Product Testing and Identified Bug Fixes

Once development is complete when then release a beta version of the system. During this beta phase, a handful of chosen users test out your product, give feedback and identify any issues or glitches in the system. This also allows us to make slight modifications and tailor the system to suit the end-users. If any errors are identified during this phase, we fix them fast and make the product ready for rollout. The rollout phase is the final stage of this entire process.

Product Release

‍

After major bugs (if any) are fixed and the product is made stable, we then roll out the project. Rolling out involves uploading the apps to the apple and google play store, uploading and migrating the databases to the live website. At this stage, the project is understood to be complete.

Your product or service may require continuous development, improvements, and technical support. For these new features and developments, the above process essentially repeats itself. Further, the more we repeat the process, the more efficient the entire process becomes. This is because the people involved understand the project well and the project continues flowing effortlessly.

Technical Support

We do not want to leave you with a final product, without supporting you throughout the process. Technical support is essential because we cannot predict the future. There are many factors affecting the stability of a software system. Unforeseen glitches are inevitable, although we do our best to prevent them. We notice this as even large companies such as Apple and Google have bugs in their products and system. But rest-assured!
